Serving Athens Since 1956!
Ask any Athenian to share their memories of growing up in Athens and you will find getting a hand-dipped ice cream cone at Hodgson's Pharmacy is always at the top of the list.
In 1956 when Harold B. Hodgson - belovingly known as 'Doc' - bought and renamed Hodgson's Pharmacy he created An Athens Tradition. Doc worked to give Athens the very best in pharmaceutical care and expertise and taught his patients to expect a high level of customer service. With the support of his wife Ruby, he created a community resource that extended beyond Athens and impacted pharmacy throughout The State of Georgia. Doc served as President of the State Board of Pharmacy, President of the Georgia Pharmacy Association, and President of the local pharmacy association. Doc passed away in 2008 but his memory will always be cherished.
Alongside Doc, pharmacists Mack Lowrey and Chester Sosebee both practiced at Hodgson's Pharmacy for over 30 years each. They each contributed greatly to Hodgson's Pharmacy's knowledge, expertise, and sucess. Over the last 56 years Hodgson's Pharmacy has been a community center where the neighborhood gathers to have an ice cream, get its medications, and enjoy life in Athens.
In 2011 the Hodgson's family sold Hodgson's Pharmacy to native Athenian and second generation pharmacist, Dr. Christopher Thurmond. Under its new ownership Hodgson's Pharmacy looks to continue its commitment to the Athens community as a pioneering pharmacy resource and a neighborhood center. Hodgson's Pharmacy wishes to be An Athens Tradition for many more generations to come. The hometown feel, the tradition of fast friendly service, and the hand-dipped ice cream cone will remain an intergral part of Hodgson's Pharmacy's future.
